Founded in 2001 by Managing Partners, Dr. Charles F. Cook and Jean Thurber-Cook., Country Fare Consulting (CFC) is a leading consulting and outsourced management company for Global Food Safety and Quality Auditing Programs. Prior to founding CFC, Charlie and Jean founded and headed Cook and Thurber, LLC, a leading provider of third-party food safety and quality auditing, which was ultimately acquired by NSF in 2001. As a pioneer in the field of food safety, Charlie has been instrumental in defining and establishing many of today’s standards, processes and best practices. Dr. Cook is renowned for his technical and regulatory expertise and, in addition to managing supply chain quality, serves as an expert witness regarding Food safety and quality process control.
As an outsourced quality management organization, the CFC team is responsible for the end-to-end management of supply chain quality and safety for some of the world’s largest franchise restaurant chains. In this capacity, CFC oversees 16 International 3rd party Auditing Firms who perform nearly 2000 audits a year in 45 countries at facilities, growing fields, warehouses, packinghouses and distributors.
CFC’s business was rapidly expanding and putting a considerable strain on their staff and their internal systems. The volume of data and inherent complexity of the business required a new approach. CFC evaluated staff additions, technology solutions and custom software as possible solutions. Adding staff would simply increase costs without improving efficiency, off-the-shelf solutions weren’t adaptable to their business model, and building software was too expensive and risky. The solution went live in the summer of 2012 with great results. “We now have all our Auditing Partners, Suppliers, Facilities, Contacts, Audits, Corrective Action Plans, Contracts, Certifications and Policies in one system that can be accessed anytime from anywhere,” says Jean Thurber-Cook.
